use the Bar-On Emotional Quotient inventory (EQi)
as it has exceptional strengths for Emotional Intelligence development.
The EQi has been developed by Dr. Reuven Bar-On, a clinical psychologist
and researcher who has spent over 20 years researching and developing
the EQi.
What does the Bar-On EQi measure and how?
The Bar-On EQi measures your Emotional Quotient using a questionnaire
of 133 items scored on a scale of 1 – 5. The analysis identifies
five main components which are:
Intrapersonal – determines how
in touch with your feelings you are, how good you feel about yourself
and about what you are doing in life.
Interpersonal – determines your
“people skills”. Your ability to be aware of, understand
and accept the feelings of others as well as relate well to people
and build meaningful relationships
Adaptability – determines your ability
to size up and respond to different situations. Your ability to
adapt your feelings, thoughts and behaviours to changing conditions
and situations and to manage change in general. Your ability to
solve problems of a personal or interpersonal nature.
Stress Management – determines your
ability to manage stress, impulses and strong emotions so that they
work for you and not against you.
General Mood – determines your outlook
on life, your ability to enjoy yourself and others, to motivate
yourself and your general feelings of contentment.
